ARIA Award-winning film composer Helena Czajka blends her classical training from Australia and her work as an orchestrator in Tokyo, with a passion for sound design and electronic textures.
Helena has composed the music for acclaimed productions including the 2024 winner of the top Jury Prize at Austin Film Festival, sci-fi thriller feature film IN VITRO, and the winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at both Tribeca Film Festival and Sydney Film Festival, BLIND AMBITION. Helena has written music for the Emmy-winning children’s show BLUEY, the 2024 Logie-nominated ABC political documentary series NEMESIS, the 2023 award-winning SBS drama series SAFE HOME, and the 2020 Walkley Documentary Award-winning series REVELATION.
Most recently, Helena composed the music for two feature documentaries - YURLU | COUNTRY, which premiered at the 2025 Sydney Film Festival and UNBREAKABLE: THE JELENA DOKIC STORY, which screened in cinemas nationwide in late 2024.
Helena won an ARIA Award in 2021 for Best Children's Album and an APRA Screen Music Award for Best Soundtrack Album for her work on BLUEY: THE ALBUM. The album debuted at #3 on the US iTunes Charts and made history as the first ever children’s album to reach #1 on the Australian ARIA Charts.
Helena received a 2024 ARIA Award nomination for Best Original Soundtrack Album for the ABC documentary series NEMESIS. She received a 2023 ARIA Award nomination in the same category for UNSEEN SKIES. Helena crafted the music for this feature documentary by manipulating NASA-recorded sounds from space to create a distinctive and experimental score.
Helena also received a 2023 APRA Screen Music Award nomination in the category of Best Music for a Television Series or Serial for the score she composed for the SBS drama series SAFE HOME.
Previous work includes the feature film BEAST that received its premiere at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, and was nominated by George Miller for the 2020 Byron Kennedy Award for 'Best Australian Indie Feature Film of the Decade'.
Helena worked as an orchestrator in Tokyo, Japan for Japanese film composer Yoshihiro Ike after graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with First Class Honours in Music Composition.
She is a member of The Australian Guild of Screen Composers (AGSC) and holds an AACTA Professional Membership.
